Green Hack: garden and outdoor spaces

Leave a patch of lawn unmown for wildlife

Why leave a patch of lawn unmown?

Leaving a patch of your lawn unmown can have many benefits. It's one of the best ways to encourage wildflowers into your garden 1. It can also host a variety of insects and other invertebrates that might otherwise struggle in short, 'well-maintained' grassland.

You don't need acres of land or to let your whole garden go wild (although that would be amazing!). A small patch of grass in the corner of your garden, preferably by the hedge/garden border, can make a great difference for local wildlife.

Tag us in your wild patches with the hashtag #GreenHacks for the chance to be featured on our social media!
