Green Hack: shopping habits

Use your local library instead of buying a book or film

Using your local library instead of buying books and films

For those able to access a local library, borrowing instead of buying books and films is a great switch for both your planet and pocket!

Libraries commonly lend out books for free and may charge a small rental fee for DVDs. Using these services promotes a culture of sustainability and reduces demand for more new products to be made, reducing the resources and energy used to fuel production of more books, DVDs and other consumer goods.

If you don't have access to a library but can use the internet, consider downloading books, films or games online instead of buying physical copies. Friends and family might also be able to lend you items, and you could get some great recommendations from them!
